What is a CT scan?
A CT scan is a modern X-ray procedure that captures images of the body layer by layer. While conventional X-rays provide only a two-dimensional image, computed tomography scans produce numerous cross-sectional images that are then combined to form a detailed picture.
This high image resolution makes it possible to accurately assess even deep-seated structures. Bones, internal organs, lungs, and blood vessels in particular, can be visualized exceptionally well with a CT scan.

How does a CT scan work?
During the exam, the examination table on which the patient is lying moves slowly through the ring-shaped opening of the CT scanner. At the same time, the X-ray tube rotates around the body, capturing images from many different angles.
A powerful computer immediately processes this data into high-resolution cross-sectional images. Depending on the clinical question, a contrast agent may also be used to make certain organs or blood vessels even more clearly visible.
